    Check your driving licence NOW - or risk £1000 fine!

    We often go about our lives forgetting to check small things, such as our driving licence, but you could be landed with a £1000 fine from DVLA if it's not up-to-date.
Details such as your name and title should be kept up-to-date, as well as your address, even if you are only their temporarily. Last year, CompareTheMarket revealed that 1.5 million drivers did not have an up-to-date address listed on their driving licence, making it invalid. 

You must also check the dates on the back of your driving licence to ensure that your picture is up to date. Driving licence pictures can last up to 10 years, making it easy to forget about. 

The DVLA has since come forward to talk on the importance of having a licence with the correct information on it. 

“Drivers are required by law to let the DVLA know if they change their name or address. The DVLA then issue a new licence for free,” it said.

“Keeping DVLA informed ensures that drivers can be notified promptly with important information affecting them such as reminders when their licence is due for renewal.

“If a driver fails to notify the DVLA of changes they could face a fine of up to £1000.”

It's surprising how many individuals have an out of date or incorrect driving licence, considering it is free and easy to update on the .gov website, and only takes up to 3 weeks for your new photo ID card to arrive.
