Joining The Motability Scheme

 

Who can apply for Motability 

Am I eligible to join the Motability scheme?

To be eligible for the Motability scheme you must be receiving one of the following allowances:

  • Higher rate mobility part of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Higher rate mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

You'll need at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply. If you have less than that you will need to wait until your allowance provider renews your allowance.

Customers don't need to be able to drive- up to two carers or relatives can be named on the agreement, to help with attending appointments and getting about. If you receive one of the allowances above or you're a carer, parent or nominated driver then you can check on the Motability Eligibility Checker to find out if you're eligible to join the Motability scheme.

What is the New Vehicle Payment?

Motability have introduced New Vehicle Payment to help Motability customers afford a new car to help with the increasing price of new cars. You’ll receive a payment of £750 when you acquire your Motability vehicle if:

  • You’re new to the Motability Scheme
  • You’re renewing at the end of your existing vehicle lease

If you’re eligible for the New Vehicle Payment you can choose to send this directly to West Way to help towards your Advance Payment (where applicable), or have this paid in full after you get your new vehicle.
