    Essentials for winter driving

It's a good idea to keep some 'essentials' in your car all year round, but especially for when temperatures drop, so here's our ultimate guide on what you need.
During this time of year, weather in the UK can be unpredictable, which is why you need to be prepared for any sort of weather condition. We've broken down everything you may need in case of an emergency or a break down during winter conditions.

Mobile phone charger

You should always keep a charger for your phone in your car, as you never know when it'll be needed. You need to ensure it's compatible with not only your phone, but also your car. You need to check what sort of outlet your vehicle has.

Spare clothing

You don't know when, where, or if you will breakdown, or even how long it will take recovery to reach you, so taking spare clothes wouldn't be a bad idea. Taking just a few thin layers of clothing will be helpful, but also remember to include things like a thick pair of socks, a scarf, gloves, a hat, and even a pair of boots. You may also want to keep a fleece jacket in your car, or even a blanket.

De-icer and scraper

These are important items that you should probably keep in your car throughout the entirety of winter. Depending on weather conditions, you may need to use these to clear your windows every morning, or even at the end of the work day.

Sunglasses

You may be thinking that this is an odd thing to include for a 'winter essentials' list, but at this time of year the can be low in the sky, which can effect your visibility. Wearing sunglasses can help with visibility, and also help with the glare from the sun.

Torch

This is something that will be handy all year round and not just in the winter. Ensure your torch can be charged via your cars power output, or check it's batteries regularly.

Shovel and mats

If you know you're going to be in an area where snow is likely to be a worry, you should think about keeping a shovel and some sort of mats in your car. If you then get stuck in the snow, you will be able to dig around your wheels, place the mats infront of them, and should be free to go.

Water and snacks

If really are stuck out in the middle of nowhere, you will be thankful that you thought so far ahead as to leave food and water in your car. If you're having to sleep in your car over night as nobody can get to you, this will help to keep your strength and energy up.
