    How to make the most of an EV's range

    With many people now being enticed by cost-effective electric vehicles, rather than costly petrol or diesel engines, we want to outline how to make your EV range ultra-efficient.

Although the award-winning Nissan ARIYA has a range of up to 310 miles, it's important to know how to make the mileage long lasting and reach its full potential, so we have a few tips on how to improve EV running costs and ensure you're making the most of your vehicle.


Choosing the right vehicle for your needs

Although purchasing a cheaper electric car may be more cost effective for you in the present, you should also consider the long term savings you would be making with a higher end EV. You should also consider which battery size would be best suited to your needs. The Nissan LEAF can be powered by either a 40kW or 62kW lithium-ion battery, where as the Nissan ARIYA can be powered by a 63kW or 87kW battery.

Update your EV computer software

Like most modern cars, EV's can also receive updates. Ensure you keep your EV updated as sometimes updates also come with added mileage. 

Set your temperature before leaving

One of the best features of electric vehicles is that you can pre-set the airconditioning or heating before any journey to ensure your vehicle will be comfortable during your journey. This is more convenient than you realise, as it also means that your driving range will be working at it's full potential because your have heated your vehicle before setting off on your journey. 

Pre-plan your journey.

With an electric car, drivers often worry about range anxiety or where they can find their next charging point. Before each journey, ensure you plan your route and make smart decisions based on where charging points can be found. EV's are often not running at their most efficient on motorways, as you often go at a constant speed with little to no regeneration. You may also want to avoid doing speeds over 70MPH as this can be highly draining on your battery.

Be mindful of how you drive

Most modern vehicles, including EV's now come with a range of driving modes such as Eco, Normal and Sport. To gain the maximum mile mileage, we would recommend sticking to Eco mode. Ensure you drive as smoothly as possible during your journeys by looking well ahead and knowing your surroundings. Sharp braking can waste energy, and the regenerative braking system will be minimised.
