Is servicing your car REALLY important?

When you buy a car from a dealership or take it to a garage, you may be asked if you want it to be serviced or if you want a service plan - but is it really that important?
  • Make an appointment that suits you with Nissan Express Service

Unlike an MOT, having a service completed on your vehicle is not a legal requirement - but did you know that by having yearly services on your car you could be drastically reducing the chances of your vehicle failing its MOT.

What components of your vehicle should be regularly serviced?

  • Oil levels - Oil allows your engine to run smoothly. Old oil can be unclean and effect the MPG, emissions and efficiency of your car.
  • Tyre pressure & condition - If you drive quite a lot, then it's very important to check your tyres are of safe quality and adhere to legal limits.
  • Spark plugs - Many garages recommend replacements every 30,000 miles, but it all depends on the models, how you drive and and the condition of the other parts surrounding the spark plug.
  • Air filters - This can be easily checked and replaced, and the air conditioning could also be regassed at this point.
  • Brake system - Brakes should regularly be checked to maintain peace of mind for the safety of the car.
  • Electronics - Modern cars are PACKED with electronic gadgets, during a service any electronics can be checked to ensure they are running as they should.

Does your car NEED to be serviced?

The short answer is, technically, no, as it is not a legal requirement. However, we would recommend having an annual service completed as it keeps your car in top condition and allows your vehicle to maintain its value.

To make a service more affordable, you can take out servicing plans with many dealerships. A car service plan can be set up with your local dealership or garage. For a fixed monthly rate or one annual payment, a driver can gain a set number of servicing appointments for their vehicle.

West Way currently offers 2 years FREE servicing with our range of Nissan Intelligent Choice vehicles. This can then be extended with one of our fantastic service plans.

What are the risks of not getting your car serviced?

Servicing ensures your vehicle is safe and in good condition for the road. By undertaking a service on your car, you may be able to prevent a breakdown before it happens or even an MOT failure. You will also be ensuring that your vehicle is running in optimum condition to ensure the safety of yourself, your passengers and other drivers around you.

By not getting your car serviced regularly, you could be ensuring a shorter lifespan of the engine or the vehicle as a whole, as you aren't taking the appropriate steps to care for your car and it's components.
