The Electric Vehicle Homecharge scheme set to change in 2022

31st March will be the last day for acceptance of OZEV home charging grant applications.
The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), which was first introduced in September 2014, allows owners of certain Electric Vehicle's(EV's) to claim a grant. This grant will soon no longer be available to homeowners (including those with mortgages) and the deadline for submitting new home changer finance option orders to qualify for the £350 grant is 31st March 2022.

In October 2021, the government revealed that since the scheme began they had paid out £78.9 million in grants to help install more than 157,000 devices to homes across the country.

Nissan has partnered with E.ON Drive and Pod Point to make it simple for customers to qualify to have electric vehicle chargers installed, however, only a limited number of suppliers of charging points are guaranteeing January orders will be completed by March.

Who is eligible?

Currently, you are entitled to a grant from EVHS if you are a homeowner who has off-street parking and is a named owner of an EV that is listed as eligible. Alternatively, your employer can nominate you for the EVHS if you drive an EV for work.

However, you need to act fast to take advantage of the scheme and save money, as eligibility rules are changing in March 2022.

How is the scheme changing?

From March 31st, 2022, you will no longer be eligible for EVHS if you are a homeowner of detached, semi-detached, terraced houses or bungalows. The government will then begin to focus the grant onto landlords of rental properties. It is believed that this will remove key barriers in switching to electric driving for people living in densely populated urban areas.

How do I get the grant?

If you're eligible for the EVHS, you will be able to receive your grant as a discount on the price of your home charger installation, but it has to be through an approved EVHS installer. The installer will look through your criteria and automatically apply the discount if you are eligible.

Nissan is currently partnered with E.ON Drive and Pod Point, one of the main providers of charging points. This will allow for easier, simpler and more accessible ordering of high-quality home charging points and installations.
The price of the charging point and installation can be incorporated into your PCP or HP finance package, and paid off monthly throughout your agreed term.
